EUROPEAN COUNCIL ENDORSES THE CLOSURE OF ROMANIA’S ACCESSION NEGOTIATIONS

After signing the Treaty and before accession to the European Union, our country will participate, as observer, in all activities of the member states. At the same time, Romania will continue to implement the acquis and to complete the commitments undertaken during negotiations, in a way allowing us, with the support and involvement of the European institutions as partners, to reach the necessary compatibility to assume all the obligations of membership on January 1, 2007. Special attention will be paid to such domains as Justice and Home Affairs, Competition as well as Environment.

The timely closure of accession negotiations constitutes a confirmation of the progress undertaken by Romania, and at the same time, a reiteration of European Union’s political determination to accept our country, together with Bulgaria, in one of the most ample waves of accession to confirm, on January 1, 2007 a 27-member state Union.
